After serving as a children’s pastor at four different churches in four different states [NY, OH, PA, DE] over a period of 14 years, the Guertins felt convinced as a family that our Heavenly Father had a new phase of ministry for them.  In February of 2000, they entered into full-time itinerant ministry, allowing them to become more available to a greater spectrum of Jesus’ Church.

Michael Guertin is an ordained minister of Elim Fellowship of Lima, NY, an organization  which he has been associated with since 1976. He is under the covering of Elim Fellowship as an itinerant home-missionary. He graduated from Elim Bible Institute in 1982 and received a bachelor’s degree from Roberts Wesleyan College in 1983 (Religion/Philosophy). The CABOOSE! ministry is also recognized, endorsed, and affirmed by our local church, Immanuel Church, and its leadership here in Delaware, which has also licensed him to preach the gospel.  In addition, Michael is an affiliate ministry of the Hopewell Network of Churches, headquartered in New Holland, PA.

The new vision and directive he received from the Lord in 2000 was to have the main thrust of the ministry be one of conducting services for adults, teens, and elementary aged children together.  This is often accomplished by the use of the “Time Machine”, serious dramas accompanied by movie scores, sound effects, and special effects.  The drama is followed by a message illustrated by the use of several object lessons and visual aids.  The word of God is then presented both in content and de-livery in such a manner that it is of interest to the different age levels.  Evidenced throughout the message is Michael’s love for systematic theology and expository study and preaching.  The service closes (should the Lord direct) with the entire family spending time at the altar together.  This ministry seeks to assist families by avoiding the fragmentation that often characterizes our society and too often the Church. CABOOSE! also provides other services—youth retreats, youth & children’s  services, rallies, camps, school assemblies and chapels, children’s workers’ seminars, graduation services, and banquets.

Michael and Kim were married in 1977 and reside in Wilmington, DE.  They have three grown children: Matthew, Laura, and Caleb.  They home-schooled them through high school.  Matthew is a graduate of Elim Bible Institute (2001) and of Regent University (2005). Matthew and his wife Devon serve full-time in young adult ministry at a church in Ohio.  Laura is a graduate of Elim Bible Institute (2003). She assists her husband Nathan, who serves as our own local church’s youth pastor. Caleb attended Elim Bible Institute (2003-’04) as a special student for one year, and then graduated from Wilmington University (2008).  He and his wife Elizabeth serve our local church in various venues of worship.

“CABOOSE!” is a multi-faceted ministry that conducts services for adults, teens, and children. These services may be conducted in a wide variety of ministry settings: church worship services, youth camps, retreats and kids’ rallies, coffee houses, outreaches, banquets, etc.  I have been involved in summer camp leadership since 1984. I have directed youth and children’s camps for the Hopewell Network of Churches since 1991.

Caleb, being a gifted musician/songwriter, has performed in various & numerous places.  He has released three CDs, “Everything I”, in 2002, “Beloved” in 2006, a a worship CD, a.k.a. “The Making”, along with his wife Elizabeth in 2010. One type of ministry he and I do together (I am his drummer), is that of a “Caleb Guertin Band” concert [or, The Making concert, depending on the venue], followed by worship & an illustrated message.
